The Airstream Switcheroo

Following Alumafandango, we took our trailer to Airstream Adventures Northwest to have them do a few small fixes and one big one – fix the slide out so that we could actually use it.  While we were waiting to finish handing off the keys to someone from service, we wandered around the showroom, looking at some of the new trailers.  Leslie summoned me into a particularly shiny 30′ Flying Cloud to take a look.  After the week in our Classic, this brand new Flying Cloud Bunkhouse looked particularly bright and spacious. Part of it may have been the lighter wood and LED lighting but another big aspect was all of the exposed aluminum on the inside. So shiny! Even though both trailers are 30′, this one looks, somehow, bigger on the inside. The thing that really started getting our new-trailer-envy going was the bunkhouse bed in addition to the front queen bed.  We don’t have extra people traveling with us, but the idea of having a cozy little back room to kick back and read or watch TV, and having the bathroom on the opposite end of the trailer from the bedroom both were very appealing to us. Topping it off, all of the hookups in this newer model are in much more convenient places than they were on the 2007 Classic. Easier to connect hoses and plug in the power. Oh, and dual A/C. We both started thinking – what kind of a deal could we get trading in our Classic for this new trailer? We decided to just think about it for a while and took off before we got into too much trouble. A week or two passed before we got a call from the service department saying that they couldn’t find anyplace that sold replacement motors for the slide out locking mechanism but they were still looking into it. That’s when we took the opportunity to email the sales guy to find out what kind of deal they could make us to trade in our old trailer for that new shiny we saw on the sales floor. A week passed with no reply. I sent a follow up using the web forms on their website...
